Marcelo works as a professional freelance illustrator and comics artist in Australia and overseas. His list of clients include international companies such as Marvel, Apple inc, Time Inc, Event Cinemas, Frew publishing, and many more. Currently he is working on a new sci-fi/time traveling graphic novel named The Verge with writer/director Bryce McLellan.

Thomas Campi is an award-winning Italian artist living permanently in Sydney, Australia. Thomas has been making comics for over 18 years, and his work has been published in various countries around the world. His latest graphic novels Magritte: this is not a biography and the upcoming graphic novel Joe Shuster – The artist behind Superman have been translated into English.

Queenie Chan was born in Hong Kong, and migrated to Australia when she was six. In 2004, she began drawing a mystery-horror series called The Dreaming for TOKYOPOP which has since been translated into multiple languages. She has collaborated with best-selling author Dean Koontz for his Odd Thomas series, and with Kylie Chan on Small Shen. She has also finished a fairy tale fantasy series called Fabled Kingdom.

Frew Publications has been the genuine, one and only publisher of the Phantom Comic and other Lee Falk creations in Australia since 1948. One of their artists who will be sketching will be Sydney based illustrator Jamie Johnson. From a young age, he has had a passion for comic art. He is a fan favourite cover artist on The Phantom, becoming known for his wraparound and connecting covers in recent years.

Giant Panda King is a boutique publishing company based in Sydney, Australia, established by the creators of Star Wars burlesque show ‘The Empire Strips Back’ and men’s parody magazine, Wookieerotica. Their Batman parody photobook, Gotham: 1919-1939will be published in May 2018 and available at Kino FCBD.

Pat Grant lives in Wollongong. He is the author of “Blue” (Top Shelf) and the forthcoming graphic novel “The Grot” (Top Shelf). His comics and writings have compelled people to chew at their cuticles in discomfort, take long baleful sniffs of printed paper, and cry while trawling the internet.

Louie Joyce is an award-winning comics creator and illustrator based in Austinmer, NSW. His comics include Past the Last Mountain (Winner of a 2017 Silver Ledger Award), The Many Harold Holts of Space & Time, Astral and self published books MISHMASH & HODGEPODGE. Louie’s illustration work has been exhibited internationally and he creates illustrations for storyboards, animation, publishing and concept development.

Craig Phillips has illustrated books and created rock posters for bands such as Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters, art for Neil Gaiman’s  American Gods, and written and illustrated his own graphic novels. His first, Giants, Trolls, Witches, Beasts, was a notable book in the 2018 CBCA Children’s book awards and shortlisted for an Aurealis. His new book, The Adventures of Jack Scratch, is out now and will be available at Kino FCBD.

Daniel Picciotto is a creative mind with a strong passion for visual storytelling. With a body of work including storyboarding for commercials, and artwork for the award-winning TV show “Ready For This” on the ABC, Daniel’s favourite accomplishment has been seeing his comic work published in Comixtribes Scamthology. Look for his cover work on the upcoming Phantom TPB from Frew Publications.

Lesley aka ‘Striped Designs’ has been drawing and creating ever since she could hold a pencil incorrectly. She has a passion for all things story telling and world building and is lucky enough to get paid to do it.

Kinokuniya is thrilled to welcome New York Times bestselling and award-winning writer Marjorie Liu to Kino FCBD!

Ms. Liu is a highly celebrated comic book writer. Her extensive work with Marvel includes the bestselling Dark Wolverine series, NYX:  No Way Home, X-23, and Black Widow: The Name of the Rose. Her newest work is MONSTRESS, an original, creator-owned comic book series with Japanese artist (and X-23 collaborator) Sana Takeda. Published by Image in Fall 2015, MONSTRESS is set in an alternate, matriarchal 1920’s Asia and follows a girl’s struggle to survive the trauma of war. With a cast of girls and monsters and set against a richly imagined aesthetic of art deco-inflected steam punk, MONSTRESS #1 debuted to critical praise.

Our ever-popular Cosplay Competition is on like Donkey Kong again this year with prizes from MadmanSupanova Comic-Con & Gaming Expo and SMASH! Plus this year we are introducing the Kinokuniya Choice prize, for which we will be enlisting the help of special guest judges and professional cosplayers Lucky Bonez and A.K. Wirru! There’s also the People’s Choice prize, which will be determined by the most likes in each category via public voting on Facebook.

It’s going to be an amazing day, as always, and we know that everyone is going to have the best time ever!! To make sure that this happens and that everyone has a good time, here are some basic house rules to be mindful of on the day:

  • Be prepared and informed – soak up all the info above on the workings of the day
  • Follow instructions & directions from staff & volunteers – and don’t be afraid to ask if you have a question!
  • Ask before you take photos – we’re all going to be very good-looking on the day, but please do remember to be respectful about photo-taking
  • No real weapons please – all’s fun and games until someone loses a limb or gets arrested… let’s keep those cosplay props safe, guys
  • Be courteous to your fellow FCBD-goer – we’re all here for the same reasons and to have a good time, so good vibes all around for all please!
