The City in Itself | Rohan Hutchinson

We’re thrilled to welcome photographer Rohan Hutchinson back to our Wedge Gallery with his latest body of work!

‘The City in Itself’ is a body of work that explores the variety of architectural elements that make up a city, in this case, Tokyo.

With Hutchinson’s previous studies being into Japanese Architecture/Design and its Historical and cultural affiliations, he uses this project as a departure point to take on a new personal perspective, one that closely inspects the social and economic framework of the city.

In turn ‘The City in Itself’ shows Tokyo on a new perspective, one that breaks away from the stigma often depicted with a major metropolis, showcasing that even in one of the densest populated cities in the world there is still space for contemplation.

‘The City in Itself’ opens from 18th – 31st October.

Rohan Hutchinson is an Australian born photographer whose primary research has been into the built landscape. Through photography he questions the transformation of architectural space and our relationship with environment.

Hutchinson has completed artist in residency programs at Lethbridge University Alberta, Canada; and the Centre for Art and Architecture Kanazawa, Japan. Research trips have also included, Beijing, Alaska and the Arctic.

He has participated in local and international group exhibitions and held solo shows at Strange Neighbour Gallery, Perth Centre for Photography, Queensland Centre for Photography, Kanazawa Art Port, Colour Factory Gallery, Flinders Lane Gallery and Seventh Art Space.

Hutchinson currently resides in Melbourne.
